UESI Members and Colleagues,

I am grateful to begin my presidency and honored to lead this relatively young and rapidly growing, industry-leading global organization. I look forward to engaging with members, listening to new ideas, and working closely with colleagues and board members to further advance the goals of our organization.

As the new year begins, I am excited about the many opportunities ahead for the Utility Engineering and Surveying Institute (UESI). Under the exceptional leadership of our Past President, Dan Gillins, Ph.D., P.L.S., we have made impressive strides over the past year. I am confident that 2025 will be another remarkable year for UESI, and I will strive to build on the recent momentum. Together, we will continue expanding initiatives that foster networking and engagement within the UESI community. Aligned with the Institute’s current goals, here are some key areas we will focus on this year:

Expanding Our Membership & Engagement

UESI thrives because of the diverse perspectives, expertise, and dedication of its members. We will continue to pursue member, organizational, and professional engagements within the national and international communities. Whether you are a utility engineer, surveyor, student, contractor, administrator, early-career professional, academic, public, or private owner/operator, UESI is committed to offering resources, connections, and networking opportunities that will help you grow in your profession.

2025 Pipelines Conference

One of the most exciting highlights of the upcoming year is the 2025 Pipelines Conference to be held in Tampa, Florida, from August 9th to 13th. As the pipeline industry continues to evolve in response to technological advancements and sustainability demands, this conference will provide invaluable insights into the future of pipeline engineering, design, construction, operation, and asset management practices.

Strengthening Our Foundation for the Future

Looking ahead, our focus will be on strengthening UESI’s role in providing the leadership and resources necessary to help our members and organizational partners navigate industry changes. I am excited about the innovative solutions we will collectively develop. Additionally, we will dedicate more efforts to educating and expanding opportunities for students and young professionals. The future of UESI depends on the next generation of leaders, and we are committed to ensuring they have the tools and support necessary to succeed professionally and take on future leadership roles within our Institute.

In closing, I am excited about what lies ahead in 2025. I encourage you to take advantage of the various ways you can get involved, whether through contributing to our publications, joining a technical committee, or attending our events. I look forward to working with all of you to ensure UESI’s continued growth and impact in the years to come.

Sincerely,
Victor Fernandez-Cuervo, P.E., BC.PLW, ENV SP, F. ASCE
President, UESI Board of Governors
