Nick Santero leads the Sustainability Science team at Rivian. He has been tackling sustainability for over 15 years, with a focus on using life cycle assessment (LCA) strategies to influence product design. At Rivian, Nick helped stand up the product sustainability program and led the development and publication of the first carbon footprints for the R1T, R1S, and EDV vehicle lines. Prior to Rivian, Nick established the low-carbon design program at Apple and led the technical development of Apple’s 2030 climate neutrality plan. He has also lectured at UC Berkeley and was a sustainability consultant for companies in the metals, mining, and built environment industries. He has co-authored ten peer-reviewed publications in the field of sustainability and life cycle assessment. Nick holds a B.S. from UC Davis, M.S & Ph.D. from UC Berkeley, and a post-doc from MIT. He is a registered Professional Civil Engineer in California.
