ASCE has honored Joseph Dib, EIT, A.M.ASCE, with the 2024 Daniel W. Mead Prize for Younger Members for the paper “From Algorithms to Ethics: A Preliminary Framework for Responsible AI in Civil Engineering.”

This paper reviews the ethical implications of artificial intelligence on civil engineering as an industry in terms of bias, privacy, security, transparency, and collaboration. The presentation of real-world case studies assists in highlighting the relevance of the discussions posed as well as the ethical implications in industry.

The Daniel W. Mead Prize for Younger Members is awarded to the author or authors of a paper on professional ethics. Each year the specific topics, if any, of the contest for the forthcoming year will be selected by the Committee on Younger Members.
