Instructor:  T. Eric Stafford, P.E.

Purpose and Background

Current building codes require all buildings and structures to be designed and constructed to resist the applicable design wind loads. For the vast majority of the U.S., the design wind loads are determined in accordance with the applicable provisions of ASCE 7. This webinar is Part 2 of a 3 Part series addressing the significant changes in the wind load design procedures of the 2022 Edition of ASCE 7 Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures.

Benefits and Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • List the key changes to wind load design in ASCE 7-22.
  • Apply the new wind load provisions to the design of buildings when local jurisdictions adopt ASCE 7-22.
  • Explain how the new changes will impact the design of buildings for wind loads.
  • Gain an understanding of the rationale for making the changes to the wind provisions in ASCE 7-22.
  • Explain the changes in ASCE 7-22 wind design procedures that will impact the design of buildings for wind.
  • Explain the reasoning behind many of the changes to the wind provisions in ASCE 7-22.
  • Avoid making costly errors due to a lack of understanding of the appropriate adjustments applicable to the wind provisions of ASCE 7-22.
  • Achieve a better understanding of how the wind speed maps have changed and how the changes will impact design.
  • Explain the changes to the component and cladding loads for roofs with mean roof heights less than or equal to 60 feet.
  • Examine comparisons that show the impact of many of the changes from previous editions.

Assessment of Learning Outcomes

Achievement of the learning outcomes by attendees will be assessed through a short post-assessment (true-false, multiple choice and fill in the blank questions) will also be administered.

How to Earn your CEUs/PDHs

This course is worth .1 CEUs /1 PDHs. To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete a short on-line post-test and receive a passing score of 70% or higher within 365 days of the course purchase.

How do I convert CEUs to PDHs?

1.0 CEU = 10 PDHs [Example: 0.1 CEU = 1 PDH]
