Region 2 Director Official Nominee

Vision statement
The vision of ASCE is to promote engineers as global leaders building a better quality of life. Its mission is to provide essential value to its members, their careers, our partners, and the public through developing leadership, advancing technology, advocating lifelong learning and promoting the profession. My vision as a Director is to support the Society to advance our highly technical profession in developing and exchanging technical information to serve our world and the increasing complex challenges of the future; while also continuing to improve our ability to connect with people and professionals inside and outside of ASCE at a local level.
I have been fortunate to be involved with ASCE since the beginning of my professional career at both a local Section and Institute level. Subsequent experience beginning first as a Governor for Region 2 and a board member of EWRI, and then on the society level supporting ASCE’s public policy efforts and presenting technical knowledge at national conferences and congresses has allowed me to recognize the Society’s tremendous breath. ASCE’s greatest strength is this breath of all facets of civil engineer expertise and experience and therefore its voice to speak on behalf of the entire profession.
One of the most effective ways of reaching practicing civil engineers across the United States is through the ASCE Section and Branch structure. ASCE also plays an important role in the academic world for academic professionals helping develop students and future students to enter into the profession at the student chapter level. Student chapter need continual support as their membership matriculates and today’s students are facing an evolving educational landscape that will require active efforts to connect them to the practicing profession. Today, the Institutes are responsible for the creation of much of ASCE’s technical information while the Sections and Branches perform most of the outreach The challenge on a local level, is connecting these separate communities. In the past, many of the Sections, Student Chapters and Institutes have existed in separate spheres that seldom interacted. While ASCE continues to evolve, there is still a significant need to help translate the advances of ASCE’s research focused membership to the civil engineering practitioners and students, for the benefit of all. ASCE’s future depends on continuing to strengthen the relationships between the Sections, the Student Chapters, and the Institutes.
As a Director, I will work to connect Society-level resources and experience to the Sections and Chapters in Region 2 and to support the Region 2 Governors in all Region initiatives. As Director, I will dedicate my time and energies towards the advancement of our Society, the profession, and our members.
