Jeffrey S. Melton is a Research Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of New Hampshire and the Outreach Program Director for the Recycled Materials Research Center. His primary research interest is the characterization and beneficial reuse of mildly contaminated soils and construction and demolition (C&D) debris as construction materials in infrastructure projects. As Outreach Director, he works with FHWA, U.S. EPA and State Transportation Agencies to develop guidance documents and specifications for the appropriate reuse of recycled materials in highway infrastructure projects.
He received his B.A. in Physics in 1991 from Hamilton College, his M.S. in Ocean Engineering in 1994 from the University of New Hampshire, and his Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences in 1999 from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College. From 2000-2002, he was a Research Hydraulic Engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He is a member of ASCE’s Geo-Institute and a member of ASTM Subcommittee D18.14 – Geotechnics of Sustainable Construction.
