Joseph V.R. Paiva is CEO of GeoLearn and online content creator and provider of professional continuing education for geospatial professionals and education and exam preparation content for land surveying technicians and paraprofessionals. He is also an adjunct at the State Technical College of Missouri and Missouri University of Science and Technology. He was a full-time educator and Asst. Prof. of Civil Engineering at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he taught undergraduate surveying courses for 11 years.
Dr. Paiva's experience in engineering and surveying includes working for consultants, including in his own partnership which offered surveying and engineering services and expert witness work including testifying. He worked at Sokkia Technology and Trimble's Land Survey Division in R&D for software and hardware development, including being a user interface expert for both. He also served as a subject matter expert. As his responsibilities expanded, they included marketing and general management at both companies. At both latter organizations he was a vice president for all or part of his tenure, where is responsibilities also included managing software and hardware development as well as manufacturing.
At GeoLearn, Joe and his team have pioneered high quality, rapid and relatively low-cost creation of video-based lectures for use in online continuing education and college credit courses, enabling more interesting and retainable content. Joe is also a provider of face-to-face education since he started his career in academia and has a continuing presence on the seminar circuit at events where continuing education for professionals and technicians is required. Joe also specializes in exam preparation courses.
Even though Joe's has civil engineering degrees, he became licensed first as a professional surveyor and soon after as a professional engineer.
