Dr. Abu-Farsakh is currently working as a Research Professor and Director of Geotechnical Engineering Research Laboratory at Louisiana Transportation Research Center (LTRC) / Louisiana State University (LSU). He has a vast knowledge and over 34 years of experience on geotechnical and geomechanical engineering, analysis and design of deep foundations, field instrumenting, testing and monitoring of infrastructure, soil-structure interaction, geosynthetic reinforcement of MSE walls, embankments, slopes and pavements, advanced laboratory and in-situ testing, and finite element numerical modeling of complex geotechnical and pavement engineering problems. Dr. Abu-Farsakh’s research is highly appreciated by the professional community, which resulted in 200+ publications including about 150 journal papers and geotechnical special publications. He gave more than 150 presentation to national and international conferences. Dr. Abu-Farsakh supervised 11 Ph.D. students and 23 M.S. students, and is currently advising an additional 4 Ph.D. students and 1 M.S. graduate students. Dr. Abu-Farsakh is currently serving as a member on several national and international committees, such as ASCE Geo-Institute committee on Deep Foundation, ASCE Geo-Institute committee on Engineering Geology and Site Characterization, ASCE Geo-Institute committee on Geosynthetics, TRB AKG70 committee on Foundations of Bridges & Other Structures, TRB AFP30 committee on Soil and Rock Properties, and a member of Deep Foundation Institute, DFI. Dr. Abu-Farsakh was the Technical Publication Committee Chair/Editor of Geo-Congress 2014 “Geo-Characterization and Modeling for Sustainability,” Atlanta, Georgia; and the Editor of the “Advances in Analysis and Design of Deep Foundations,” Proceedings of the 1st GeoMEast International Congress and Exhibition on Sustainable Civil Infrastructures, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, July 2017.
