Amjad Aref, Ph.D., F.ASCE, a professor in the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at the University at Buffalo, has been named a fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Aref joined UB in 1997 after receiving his doctoral degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. He teaches and conducts research in structural engineering, mechanics, computational mechanics, earthquake engineering, and blast and multiphysics problems.
He has published extensively in the area of structural engineering and mechanics. His articles have been published in many of the premier journals of his field, including ASCE’s Journal of Structural Engineering, Journal of Bridge Engineering, and Journal of Engineering Mechanics, as well as the International Journal of Solids and Structures.
Aref currently serves as section editor of the Journal of Structural Engineering and associate editor of the Journal of Bridge Engineering.
