ASCE has honored Charles L. Head, P.E., P.G., M.ASCE, with the 2024 Professional Practice Ethics and Leadership Award for his specific achievements and lifetime accomplishments in promoting engineering ethics and leadership.

Head is the epitome of a leader with strong ethics and leadership competencies, exemplified in both his professional career and his contributions to external organizations. Along with three colleagues, he founded Sanborn Head in 1993, and since then has held various leadership roles, including president and (currently) chair of the board of directors.

But his leadership goes far beyond Sanborn Head, as he has served on multiple nonprofit boards in southern New Hampshire and volunteered his time for many years with advisory boards, CE departments, and conferences.

Head was president of the Geoprofessional Business Association in 2017-18. He currently leads an environmental due diligence contract for a multinational corporation with which he has had a longstanding client relationship.

The Professional Practice Ethics and Leadership Award was instituted by the Board of Direction in 2005 to recognize an engineer practitioner’s incident-specific or career-long application of ethics to achieve conspicuous success in a leadership role.
