A.R. Tasir “Tas” Wahlah, founder and president of two Pennsylvania transportation and construction engineering firms first launched in 1978 and sold just months before his passing, has died at 84.
In a career of more than 50 years, Wahlah P.E., M.ASCE, had retired only a few months before from his founding role as president of both firms after completing their sale to QES Pavements.
After receiving his civil engineering degree at Kansas State University and a master’s at Virginia Polytechnic Institute of Technology, Wahlah joined Pittsburgh’s public works department as a civil engineer, then advanced to assistant director of engineering for the city water department.
Wahlah started T. W. Consultants Inc. in his kitchen in 1978 with little more than a desk, ambition, and lots of determination. He built the company into a highly regarded, successful construction management and inspection services firm with a well-trained, dedicated staff focused on safety, quality, budget, communication, and client satisfaction. TWC garnered several awards for several high-profile projects for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Not resting on his achievements, in 1994 Wahlah pivoted to founding T. W. Engineering Inc., providing highway and bridge design and survey services.
Wahlah recently agreed to the acquisition of his TWC and TWE sister companies by the Quality Engineering Solutions Inc. and KDG Construction Consulting family of companies, in what QES Pavements view as a significant investment in the mid-Atlantic region.
In addition to his ASCE membership, Wahlah belonged to the American Council of Engineering Companies’ Pennsylvania chapter, the Associated PA Constructors, and the American Society of Highway Engineers.
