The following is a statement by Feniosky Peña-Mora, P.E., President, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE):
WASHINGTON – The American Society of Civil Engineers applauds the Senate's vote to confirm Lee Zeldin as the incoming Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). We are eager to work with Administrator Zeldin and the EPA to improve the nation’s energy and water-based infrastructure networks. As severe weather events increase in frequency, putting lives at risk and damaging the U.S. economy, and the nation’s water, energy and transportation networks age rapidly, we urge the incoming EPA leadership to continue to promote permitting improvements and investments that will improve the quality of life for all Americans.
Former Congressman Zeldin has experience working across the aisle on a variety of issues, including those pertinent to his home state of New York. Successful environmental stewardship and improved infrastructure conditions and protections will require bipartisan coordination. The EPA has outlined significant needs for our water infrastructure systems in particular, and ASCE members are eager to address these concerns.
ASCE is looking forward to working with Administrator Zeldin in the coming years with efficient policies and rigorous codes and standards that will keep American communities safe and businesses thriving.
