Vision statement

ASCE’s recently approved strategic plan renews the organization’s Vision, Mission and Commitment. While centered on the membership, profession and the public, the plan defines strategic shifts and objectives that apply to all three of these stakeholders and aligns well with Region 5 Goals to Inspire Members, Create Excitement and Promote Excellence in Civil Engineering. I believe Region 5 should promote the many resources ASCE provides to the members at all career levels but particularly at the student chapter and younger member levels so that they become aware of the many resources and learn early on how valuable they can be to their personal success as a civil engineer. The ASCE Mentor Match program is just one of the many valuable resources that can promote all three Region 5 Goals to young engineers and students. We should also promote the career guidance and growth as well as the professional and technical continuing education opportunities that ASCE provides. Continuing education and life-long learning resources such as the ASCE Library, seminars, online training, technical sessions, courses and certificate programs are just a few resources we should promote to all of our members.
