Vision statement

Having been established by ASCE that Civil Engineers are entrusted by society to create a sustainable world, enhance the global quality of life, serve competently, collaboratively and ethically and to demonstrate a mastery and leadership within key areas of practice and influence, my vision as Region 10 Director shall be to advance and internationalize the vision of ASCE amongst Region 10 entities by synergizing professional activities internally (within Region 10) and externally (between Region 10 and other geographical Regions and organs).

My vision is an ASCE Region 10 which entities are practically cohesive, synergized, collaborative and progressive within ASCE globalized professional framework. This shall be done to ensure a Region 10 that is highly interactive, communicative, intra-responsive between its entities in order to extend the frontiers of ASCE as a responsible flagship professional organisation in a rapidly changing world. An aspect of my overall vision is to by means of the above communication strategy prioritise attending ASCE Annual Convention and Region 10 Assembly to all Region 10 entities and their respective individual members. Members of the region shall be mobilized and sensitised adequately to turn out in good number per country at these events every year.

This strategy shall be persuasive and strong enough to achieve an increase in the number of attendees from Region 10. My vision shall also be a Region 10 where the exchange and sharing of engineering and scientific knowledge and information is a priority within it in one part and between Region 10 and other geographic regions on the other part. This shall be to improve the knowledge base of all Region 10 members, consolidate the value derivable from ASCE membership and improve members’ professional capacities in their areas of expertise.

All Region 10 entities shall be encouraged to include technical paper presentation on global built environment and sustainable development issues in the agenda of their meetings. This shall be to ensure that members are providing leadership in engineering and sustainable development issues outside the USA. Each entity shall also adopt a global development agenda that is in tandem with ASCE global priorities.

Moreover, my vision is that of a Region 10 that is vibrant, participatory and inclusive where every Section, Group and Individual Member are the driving force for the advancement of ASCE global agenda. Each member will be kept abreast of ASCE and Region 10 activities on a regular basis. I shall maintain constant personal contacts with all Presidents of Region 10 entities by the deployment of social media tools. Those Region 10 Governors who are to maintain oversight over sub-regions of Region 10 shall also be encouraged to adopt this communication strategy.

In addition, new international sections, groups and student groups/chapters shall be formed. A productive membership drive will be launched and achieved. Sister section adoption initiative shall be revived by working with other geographical regions and networking will be encouraged amongst members in order to jointly take profitable advantage of global, transboundary business opportunities.

The ultimate vision is to make every Region 10 member a champion in the built environment business, a good ambassador of the environment and sustainable development, an innovator and integrator of ideas and technology, a manager of risk and uncertainty and a leader in discussions and decision shaping.
