Tehnical Region Director Official Nominee

Vision statement
Having worked in the civil engineering profession for more than 30 years, I am driven by a desire to make a positive difference and would be honored to serve the Society and the ASCE Board of Direction as a Technical Region Director. As a proud member of ASCE since 1996, I believe my professional experience and volunteer contributions to ASCE make me uniquely qualified to serve as Technical Region Director and to vote in the best interest of the members of the Society.
As the Deputy Commissioner of the City of Atlanta, Department of Transportation, Office of Engineering, I have unique experience developing transportation infrastructure and site development projects from planning through design and construction. My progression from Project Engineer in the consultant industry to senior leadership in a large city government has afforded me experience in operations and program management, environmental assessment and documentation, public engagement, design, and construction inspection. Through this broad exposure, I have gained valuable insight into the challenges faced by project owners and stakeholders when implementing both private development and public works projects and can intelligently advocate for the ASCE Priority Issues.
Through my volunteer career, I have had the honor to give back to the profession by serving in several volunteer leadership roles within ASCE. At the local level, I helped establish the Georgia Chapter of the Transportation & Development Institute (T&DI) and served as Chair in 2011 to 2013. I served as Director of Technical Groups of the Georgia Section in 2020 to 2022. In 2013, I began serving at the Society-level in a four-year term on the T&DI Board of Governors, serving as President in 2015 to 2016. I continued at the Society-level by serving four years on the Committee on Technical Advancement, a diverse collection of nine constituent committees; I served as Chair in 2020 to 2021. In 2020, the ASCE Board of Direction authorized the formation of the Government Engineers Council (GEC), and I served on the stakeholder committee to establish the purpose and goals for the newly formed Board Standing Committee. After being appointed one of the founding members of the GEC, I served as Vice Chair for two years and am currently serving my second year as Chair. These leadership roles have afforded me the opportunity to see and value ASCE and its members from a wide variety of points of view.
My diverse experience in the industry have given me the opportunity to witness many issues facing civil engineers today, including priority issues that I aim to address: the critical importance of diversity in work force development, effects of climate change on infrastructure and our daily lives, and the need for engineers to pivot in response to evolving demands on our infrastructure. I believe one of my valuable strengths is my ability to facilitate meaningful conversations that reach consensus on complex and sensitive topics amongst a diverse group of participants. Every member of ASCE is a unique individual with specific needs, wants, and contributions depending on their geographic location, professional position, industry of practice, technical specialties, and personal interests. I believe this diversity is our greatest strength and look forward to bringing my passion to the Board as a Technical Region Director and advancing ASCE strategic objectives through continued collaboration with members from all levels of ASCE from geographic regions to technical institutes and committees that each bring knowledge and creativity that contribute to the success of the Society in achieving its vision, mission, and commitment to our members.
