**Career Booster series**
Volunteering your time and effort to share civil engineering with K-12 students is fun and a great way to get young students excited about civil engineering, but did you know this is also the “earliest” form of civil engineering advocacy? There’s a lot of push (and rightfully so) to advocate for civil engineering investment and development at the highest levels of society (Capitol Hill, local reps, etc), but what if we could also advocate at the youngest levels of society? Visiting schools and teaching students the importance of civil engineering (or at least help them develop an appreciation of it, even if they don’t want to pursue it as a career) can help raise a generation of future society leaders that are already aware of and familiar with civil engineering and infrastructure.
