Dr. Ainun Nishat was a Professor of Water Resources Engineering Department at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Currently, he is Professor Emeritus at Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research of BRAC University. Previously, he also held the position of Bangladesh Country Representative of IUCN.
He is a key member of the Climate Change Negotiation Team for Bangladesh. He was a key member of experts that prepared the National Adaptation Program of Action (NAPA-2005), Bangladesh Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan (BCCSAP 2008 and 2009) and most recently National Adaptation Plan (NAP-2022). He had been closely involved in the preparation of number of strategies and action plans including Bangladesh National Conservation Strategy and National Environment Management Action Plan.
