Dr. Michael T. McNerney is a Professional Engineer with a broad range of transportation experience in research, academia, industry, government and as an Air Force pilot and research civil engineer. Dr. McNerney has 14 years of combined research experience in the US Air Force and The University of Texas at Austin and has been the Principal Investigator or Co-PI on more than 25 research projects. He conducted field research in Rapid Runway Repair including testing using accelerated load testing. He also conducted a research project to determine the remaining pavement life analysis of Runway 17R/35L and Taxiway L at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport that introduced new technologies for pavement evaluation. Dr. McNerney was Associate Vice President of AECOM transportation services for nine years where was responsible for pavement design, pavement evaluation, and development of the Geospatial Airport Pavement Evaluation and Management System (GAPEMS) for Airports.
Dr. McNerney was Manager of the Airport Engineering Division of the Federal Aviation Administration in headquarters Washington DC for 5 years. He supervised engineers and scientists for over 100 FAA Advisory Circulars about airport safety, standards, and construction. He also was the leader of the FAA Airports GIS Program and the implementation of geospatial aeronautical data.
