Course Length: 1.5 Hours
Purpose and Background
Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) is a systematic, quality-focused process to document the performance of the building enclosure as outlined in the Owner's Project Requirements. Building systems commissioning has been around for some time; however specifically commissioning building enclosure systems is relatively new to the building industry. The BECx process is outlined in various industry standards, codes, and certification programs, each requiring varying degrees of involvement by the BECx Provider. This webinar provides an overview of the BECx process, identifying differences between BECx and commissioning of other systems, and discusses the BECx value-add to the building design and construction process.
Primary Discussion Topics
- Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) process overview
- Comparison of BECx standards, including ASTM E2813, LEED v4 (NIBS GL3), and California Building Code (Title 24)
- BECx value proposition
- Role of stakeholders in the BECx process
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain the BECx process
- Recognize the value of the BECx process and benefits of early involvement
- Identify the responsibilities of project stakeholders with regards to BECx
- Determine variable BECx requirements in ASTM E2813, LEED v4 and Title 24
Webinar Benefits
- Discover the latest advances in the BECx process
- Manage risk through all phases of the project through enhanced building enclosure quality assurance
- Determine best practices for quality control with regards to the building enclosure
- Identify additional achievable LEED points
- Understand the difference between LEED v4 and ASTM standards for BECx
- Examine the reasons that BECx may break down, and how to avoid these
- Learn where and when BECx is most valuable and effective
Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Students' achievement of the learning outcomes will be assessed via a short post-assessment (true-false, multiple choice and fill in the blank questions).
Intended Audience
- Owner's and owner's representatives
- Architectural engineers
- LEED professionals
- Enclosure and facade consultants
- Commissioning agents
- General contractors
Webinar Outline
- Discussion on the Building Enclosure Commissioning
- Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR)
- How to ensure that the exterior enclosure and those elements intended to provide environmental separation within a building or structure meet or exceed the expectations of the owner as identified in the OPR
- How to save time, money, stress, and risk
How to Earn your CEUs/PDHs and Receive Your Certificate of Completion
To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete a short on-line post-test and receive a passing score of 70% or higher within 1 year of purchasing the course.
How do I convert CEUs to PDHs?
1.0 CEU = 10 PDHs [Example: 0.1 CEU = 1 PDH]
