Purpose and Background

Amid dwindling funding resources, increasing demand, and aging infrastructure, there is increasing recognition that there is a need to innovate and increase the effectiveness of how existing assets are preserved, repaired and renewed, by shifting focus from creating new and additional capacity to maximizing the functionality of existing assets. Enterprise asset management (EAM) is a strategic and systematic process that focuses on effective operation, maintenance, upgrade, and expansion of physical assets through a whole-life approach. It allows agencies embrace business and engineering best practices with the objective of better decision making based upon the knowledge acquired from quality performance data, information and well-defined objectives. EAM is a necessity for agencies to meet the growing business and political demands of a rapidly changing business environment in the 21st century.

This webinar is aimed to explain and discuss the basics of enterprise infrastructure asset management. This course will also discuss and present a general overview of application of asset management principals in different infrastructure sectors, such as utilities, environmental facilities, and transportation.

Course topics will include the principles of enterprise asset management, performance management, risk management, financial planning, state-of-the-practice in implementing asset management system for infrastructure owners, challenges in development and implementation of asset management practices for public and private sector infrastructure owners, and a few examples of EAM implementations.
