Purpose and Background

The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design is the first building in Georgia and 28th in the world to earn Living Building Challenge (LBC) certification, the world’s most ambitious and holistic green building achievement. As part of the project’s LBC certification the site has meet and exceeded expectations regarding Net Positive Water, collecting and infiltrating 15 times the amount of water needed for operations, while also providing cistern storage and gray water treatment for reuse and consumption.

This session is the third in the series. Andrew, Jose, and Chris will discuss the site and water petals focusing on the capture, treatment, and reuse of water across the building and site. The discussion will highlight some of the site constraints that led to the specific water collection and storage practices and their incorporation into the landscape of the project.

Benefits and Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the ethos of the Living Building Challenge site and water petals
  • Explain possible best management practices for the capture, treatment, and reuse of water within a building and site.
  • Explain application and integration of stormwater storage and landscape with a goal to work harmoniously on site
  • Apply a mindset-shift in their work to move their region towards a more regenerative built environment

Assessment of Learning Outcomes

Students' achievement of the learning outcomes will be assessed via a short post-assessment (true-false, multiple choice and fill in the blank questions).
