Roman D. Grijalva, P.E., F.ASCE, the Central Texas senior director and vice president of public works for BGE Inc., has been named a fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.

Grijalva is a civil engineer with more than 26 years of experience working on various civil public works projects throughout Texas. His experience includes the design and construction management of roadway corridors, water and wastewater pipelines and facilities, drainage infrastructure, tunnels and trenchless installations, and various park improvements. BGE is an engineering firm based in Houston, with 22 offices across the southeastern United States.

Grijalva has worked on many important projects that ultimately improved the quality of life for many Central and South Texas residents. Most recently, he served as project manager for the $750 million IH 35 CapEx Central Drainage and Pump Station projects in Austin, Texas, consisting of two major 22-foot-diameter drainage tunnels extending a combined 7 miles long, and a 101,000 gpm pump station that discharges collected runoff into the Guadalupe River.

He has been an ASCE member since his sophomore year in college, serving on various committees for the university chapter at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), including participation on the concrete canoe team. As a professional, he has spent considerable time serving on many different Austin Chapter committees and has held various board positions, serving twice as president. Most recently, he served as the Texas Section vice president–professional, where he was involved with the governmental passage of two significant funding propositions for statewide water and transportation programs. 

Grijalva earned his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from UTEP and a master’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in business management from St. Edward’s University in Austin in 2003, when he graduated with honors. He is also a graduate of the Leadership Austin Essentials 2008 class and has earned the project management professional (PMP) credential.
