Brendon Inniss, C.Eng, F.ASCE, principal and chief executive, quality assurance, and business development manager at Aleron Limited, has been named a fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.

Inniss has been the engineer of record on a broad spectrum of projects in Trinidad and Tobago as well as Grenada, Montserrat, Barbados, St. Kitts, Antigua, St. Lucia, and Dominica. He has worked on a wide range of projects – multistorey commercial and residential buildings; primary and secondary schools; hotel resorts; warehouses; and private single-family residences. Among the noteworthy projects executed through his private practice are Hotel Royalton (St. Lucia), Kempinski Resort & Spa (Dominica), Six Senses Residences (Grenada), the main administration buildings for two state-of-the-art police stations, COSTAATT (tertiary-level institution), and the Ministry of Health and soon to be completed ANR Robinson International Airport in Tobago. 

He also has extensive experience in the energy sector, having designed projects for clients with a background in oil, gas, chemical, and power. He has designed numerous nonbuilding structures on special projects, including for Atlantic LNG, Petrotrin, TGU, NGC, Nutrien, PLNL, Phoenix Park Gas Processors Limited, NFM, YARA, and Trinmar.

At the helm of Aleron Limited since its inception in 2011, Inniss utilizes his Six Sigma Yellow Belt training to continually improve the organization so as to ensure relevance and competent technical abilities in accordance with today’s rapid technological advancements. He has acquired and maintained ISO 9001:2015 certification for Aleron and champions HSE awareness within the organization via fortnightly toolbox safety talks and continuously improves on QA/QC measures within the firm. He also ensures that he and his diverse team actively maintains technical capability through continuing professional development and education via a combination of his internal training program (Aleron University) and external training seminars and distance learning (online webinars). 

Inniss currently has two publications in circulation – Punching Shear Strength Capacity of Slab-Column Connections: A Comparative Study of Different Codes and A Detailed Investigation into the Use of Post-Tensioned Slabs on Grade Foundations in Trinidad and Tobago.

He maintains active membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad & Tobago (APETT), currently serving as assistant treasurer on the Executive Council as well as an ordinary member on the APETT Civil Division. In 2021, he became a chartered engineer with the Engineering Council (UK) and a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK). Inniss has also been a member ASCE for over 20 years and is currently a Level 1 certified PT installer (field fundamentals) certified with the Post-Tensioning Institute – responsible for designing over 90,000 sqare miles of PT slab on grade foundations as well as suspended PT slabs currently in service in Trinidad.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in civil and enviornmental engineering) in 2002 and his master’s degree in construction engineering and management in 2010 at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. Inniss is a registered professional structural engineer with 22 years’ postgraduate experience.
