Sebastian Lobo-Guerrero, Ph.D., P.E., BC.GE, F.ASCE, a geotechnical project manager/AAP laboratory manager at American Geotechnical and Environmental Services (A.G.E.S.) at the Pittsburgh headquarters, has been named a fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Lobo-Guerrero has more than 18 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, specializing in the design of deep/shallow foundations, earth-retaining structures, and landslide stabilization. He is a former chair of the ASCE Pittsburgh Geo-Institute, a former director of the Pittsburgh ASCE Chapter, and a current board member of the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) Anchored Earth Retention Committee. He was also conference chair for DFI-45 2020 and DFI-47 annual conferences.
Lobo-Guerrero has been a trustee of the Academy of Geo-Professionals. His awards include the 2022 DFI President's Award, the 2021 ASCE Lifetime Achievement Award, ASCE’s 2020 Civil Engineer of the Year Pittsburgh Section, the 2016 ASCE Geo-Institute Distinguished Reviewer, and the 2006 ASCE Geo-Institute Best Paper on Numerical Modelling.
He considers his biggest achievement in civil engineering to be the mixing over several decades of three critical and desired areas of work – namely, professional practice in industry, leading to relevant infrastructure projects; teaching, research, and mentoring at the university level; and authoring articles, documents, and presentations in his participation with professional societies that provide significant contributions to the profession.
