ASCE has honored Ronald T. Eguchi, M.ASCE, with the 2024 Le Val Lund Award for Practicing Lifeline Risk Reduction for his internationally renowned leadership on risk analyses and risk management studies of lifeline infrastructure for natural hazard risks.
Eguchi has over 40 years of experience involving lifeline engineering and infrastructure. As an internationally renowned leader on risk analysis and management for natural hazard risks. Eguchi has profoundly impacted lifeline engineering and public safety worldwide. He has made significant contributions to the practice of reducing risks to lifeline systems and preparing communities for natural and man-made hazards.
His interest in lifeline systems began after the devasting 1971 San Fernando Valley earthquake; this was during his engineering academic studies at the University of California at Los Angeles under the pioneering professor C. Martin Duke.
Since that time, Eguchi has directed major research and application studies in the areas of water and wastewater, power, gas and liquid fuels, communications, and transportation for government agencies and private industry. He is highly valued for his contributions and has authored over 200 publications.
The Le Val Lund Award for Practicing Lifeline Risk Reduction recognizes an individual for contributions to the practice of reducing risks to lifeline systems and preparing communities for natural and man-made hazards.
