The Forensic Division is saddened to hear that William Schmitz, our fellow Committee on Practices to Reduce Failures (CPRF) member, has passed. Vincent Campisi, CPRF Chair, said, "Bill will certainly be missed. I had the pleasure of working with Bill many years ago when he was Chief Engineer at Berger Lehman and I was with N. H Bettigole Company. Our firms collaborated on the project to design and install a movable barrier on the Tappan Zee Bridge." He also added, "I enjoyed working with him on our committee and also when we worked together on the Tappan Zee Bridge. He was a real gentleman and one of the most knowledgeable bridge engineers I ever had the pleasure of working with."
