Purpose:
To foster development through industry consensus and collaboration and to ultimately publish a new ASCE Manual of Practice titled “Guidelines for Wood Pole Structures for Electrical Transmission Lines”. As the industry continues to be changed as a result of FERC Order 1000, the demand for cost effective structural solutions is expected to increase producing challenges on the engineering community to evaluate existing wood structures for line upgrades/re-ratings and to design new wood structures for new line construction. To aid the industry, the new Manual of Practice will specifically address wood as a viable structure type and consider the specific requirements for its utilization focusing on the structural attributes of its use. This document will provide consistency in design to the industry and provide historical perspectives on performance and structural analysis.
