Happy New Year! As we move forward together in 2022, one of my primary goals as president of T&DI is to get all of you involved in one or more T&DI activities. To help us better understand how T&DI can earn your time and effort, T&DI leadership has initiated two important activities. First, we are working hard to improve our communication with you without becoming burdensome or sending an inordinate number of email messages. I can safely say that nearly all of us receive more e-mail messages each day than we can reasonably process. With this in mind, you will notice two things. T&DI communications will not compete with other ASCE communications. Systems are in place to control the overall amount of ASCE related information you receive on a daily basis. Additionally, a new format for T&DI’s monthly newsletter, with further revisions planned over the coming year, provides a more concise and informational tool that will keep you informed of the many important activities within T&DI. We want to make sure all information we send to you is important, timely, concise, of interest, and a good investment of your time.

Second, many of you noticed in the December newsletter a survey request asking you to response to a few short questions. The results of this survey will provide T&DI leadership with information and a more informed understanding of how we can serve you better and how we can earn your time and participation. Thanks to all of you who have already responded. Initial findings are telling and suggest many of you are interested in learning more about committee activities and local events. If you have not done so yet, please complete the survey found at the link provided elsewhere in this newsletter.

As a repeat of my comments in the November 2021 president’s message, my challenge to you is to volunteer and participate in at least one T&DI activity in 2022. If all of our T&DI members from around the world volunteered to actively participate in just that one T&DI activity, just one, our collective contributions will be endless! I’m confident that once you decide to invest this time in T&DI you will immediately see the value. If you are only able to participate in one activity, I strongly suggest that you attend our next in-person event which is the International Conference on Transportation & Development (ICTD) in Seattle, Washington, on May 31 through June 3. Conference link is here https://www.asce-ictd.org/ and registration is now open. The conference program is exceptional, and you will have the opportunity to network with T&DI colleagues and industry leaders from around the world. One of the primary advantages of T&DI involvement and ICTD conference attendance that you cannot find elsewhere is the connection with colleagues from government agencies, private consulting, industry, associations, and academia. An absolutely exceptional networking opportunity! I cannot wait to meet all of you in Seattle.

As always, your thoughts and feedback are welcome. Please reach out to me if you would like to learn more or need assistance finding an active role in our Institute. Thank you for all you do and will do for this wonderful Institute we call T&DI. Stay healthy and safe!

Best wishes,

T&DI President David Noyce
