Instructor: Stuart G. Walesh, Ph.D., P.E., F.NSPE, Dist.M.ASCE
Course Length: 1.5 Hours
Purpose and Background
Thriving private, public, academic, and volunteer organizations exhibit a powerful mix of leading, managing, and producing. At all levels and in all positions, visions are created as a result of leadership and translated to reality by means of management and production capabilities. In contrast, organizations that are merely surviving or already dying tend to lack one of the three essential features, often leadership.
Leading is determined not by position, but by knowledge, skills, and attitude. We are not born as leaders; however, we can become leaders. Perhaps you work hard and manage well but something is missing. Perhaps it’s one or more of the leadership qualities necessary to take you up to the next level. This webinar will help you understand leadership qualities and suggest how to develop them in yourself and others.
This forward-looking webinar will enable you to distinguish among the producing, managing, and leading functions. With respect to the last two, leadership author Warren G. Bennis said: “Leaders are people who do the right things; managers are people who do things right. Both roles are crucial, but they differ profoundly.” You will learn how to move further into the leading function by considering seven qualities of effective leaders. Participants receive a detailed handout on which the webinar will draw. The handout includes references to articles, books, e-newsletters, websites, and other self-study materials.
