Hadi Suroor, P.E., P.Eng, D.GE, F.ASCE, a recognized geotechnical and foundation design expert in the oil and gas industry, has been named a fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Suroor was the lead geotechnical engineer / engineer-of-record for many of the early LNG import terminals built along the Texas Gulf Coast as well as numerous domestic and international mega petrochemical facilities. As chief geotechnical engineer for TechnipFMC, a major EPCI contractor, he has acted as the lead geotechnical/foundation engineer in major offshore oil and gas development projects around the world.
Recently, Suroor has been engaged in the industry efforts to develop offshore seismic design practices and guidelines. To address the lack of seismic design guidelines and codes specifically for offshore/subsea facilities, he organized and chaired special technical sessions focusing on offshore seismic design at the Offshore Technology Conferences from 2015 to 2018. He has authored or co-authored several publications on this topic, is an active member of various professional organizations, and routinely volunteers as technical reviewer as well as session organizer/chair.
As a recognition of his geotechnical expertise and leadership, Suroor has been certified as Diplomate, Geotechnical Engineering (D.GE). He is a fellow of the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (F.IEB). He is also a principal of the Associates of Professional Services (APS), a specialized civil engineering firm founded by his late father.
Suroor is a registered professional engineer in Texas and Louisiana, and in Alberta, Canada. He obtained his undergraduate degree in civil engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in 1995 and his graduate degree in geotechnical engineering from Texas A&M University.
