In September, T&DI had the pleasure of hosting lectures by our past two Francis C. Turner Award recipients, Dr. Hai Yang, Ph.D., C.Eng, M.ASCE (2021), and Dr. Eyad Masad, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE (2022). Both delivered outstanding presentations that were so well-received by our attendees that we’ve decided to share them in a public space.
Dr. Yang is Chair Professor of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His presentation, Smart Travel Demand Management in the Era of Smart Transportation, discusses how disruptive technologies including ride sharing, automation, and electrification, are creating uncertainty for the future of mobility and transportation. Innovation, he believes, is the key to solving big city traffic problems. His lecture includes obstacles and solutions to these problems in an era of smart transportation, and covers topics including tradable travel credit, high-volume transit demand management, and reward schemes that could make a tremendous difference.
Dr. Masad is the Zachry Professor and Executive Director for Global Partnerships at the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station in Doha, Qatar. Advancing Asphalt Pavements Through Mechanistic and Microstructure Analysis focuses on the role of technological developments in advancing the performance of asphalt pavements including the four change agents that drive the way forward: Resilience, Smart Infrastructure, Sustainability, and Technological Advancements and Opportunities. This lecture dives deeper into the topic by bridging the links between material microstructure and performance, AI capabilities, and integrating microstructure characterization models to create more sustainable asphalt.
We hope you enjoy these lectures as much as we enjoyed presenting them.
