Over the past month, it has become apparent that the Trump Administration is changing federal policy, impacting transportation and development in the U.S. Change is often uncomfortable and always inevitable. If you perform a quick web search you will find numerous articles linking change to opportunity. Now is the time to assess the here and now and find our opportunities.
Historically, we as civil engineers have a strong record of adapting to change and thriving. Examples include horse-to-car, train-to-plane, calculator-to-assisted intelligence, satellite images, BIM, composite materials, and more.
“Change is the only constant.” – Heraclitus.
Having adapted to some of these past changes during my professional career (not the horse-to-car), I am confident that we can rise to this challenge and make the most of the opportunity.
Good news! Past T&DI President Lenor Bromberg was endorsed by the Technical Region Board of Governors (TRBG) to advance to the ballot for the ASCE Technical Region Board Member position. Ms. Bromberg is the Deputy Commissioner of Engineering for the City of Atlanta. She has more than 25 years of experience in transportation planning, public engagement, design, construction management, and development. Ms. Bromberg has worked in the engineering consultant world as well. In addition to her ASCE service with T&DI, she has led the Committee on Technical Advancement and chairs the Government Engineers Council. Ms. Bromberg was nominated by T&DI and because of the action taken by the TRBG, she will appear on the next ballot for ASCE Board membership. Please consider voting for her when the ballot arrives.
Reminder: Registration for the 2025 International Conference on Transportation & Development (ICTD) and the co-located International Airfield & Highway Pavements Conference opened January 22nd. This unique international conference will provide an exclusive opportunity to network, interact, and exchange information with worldwide leaders in the fields of transportation & development and pavements. It will bring together transportation systems, infrastructure practitioners and researchers, operation managers, project/construction managers, academics, transportation & development practitioners, consultants, and contractors from around the world. Registration for either conference includes the other, allowing participants the experience of two conferences in one. Please consider attending!
