About the Competition

ASCE has partnered with the American Wood Council (AWC), APA - Engineered Wood Association (APA), and Simpson Strong-Tie (SST) to pilot the Timber-Strong Design Build℠ (TSDB℠) Competition. The competition seeks student teams to design and build an artistically creative 2-story wood light-framed building that is sustainable, aesthetically pleasing and structurally durable.

This competition will continue to be offered as a pilot competition in 2025.

Rules & RFIs

The Timber-Strong Design Build℠ rules describe the requirements to design, model, and build a 2-story wood light-framed building. The competition enables students to gain experience in performing aspects of common structural engineering design and practice as well as gain exposure to the management and building practices used in construction environments. Student teams should read these rules thoroughly and seek clarifications as necessary.

The competition provides a “Requests for Information (RFI)” period so that student teams can ask questions about the rules. See the rules document, revised on October 4, 2024, for how and when to send RFIs as well as how to access the responses.
