Educational Goals
The ASCE Construction Engineering Certificate Program prepares professionals in a variety of construction related roles to effectively manage contracts and plan and schedule projects. Two tracks provide specialized knowledge for working in either unit pricing or lump sum pricing models. Electives allow for further tailoring beyond unit or lump sum pricing to provide additional expertise as needed, based on participants’ particular roles and baseline knowledge.
This program focuses on providing practical knowledge in construction engineering, specifically aimed at addressing industry gaps between typical undergraduate civil engineering education and the necessary skills to work effectively in the construction industry. This includes enhancing knowledge of construction means and methods, and the application of best practices to meet industry demands. The program's flexible, asynchronous format supports working professionals learning at their own time and pace, and helps learners acquire the skills to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Benefits and Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, you will be able to:
- Explain the fundamentals of construction contracts and how elements of construction procurement systems (delivery methods, procurement and award, payment, etc.) drive contract administration requirements for typical projects.
- Apply the fundamental elements of construction administration and apply best practices through all phases of typical projects.
- Describe appropriate project controls to set and attain budget, schedule, safety, quality, production, and performance goals of typical projects.
Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Achievement of the learning outcomes by attendees will be assessed through?a?short post-assessment (true-false and multiple-choice questions).
