Course Length: 1 hour

Purpose and Background

This course will only award PDHs for completion.

The presentation provides an overview of the revolutionary SpeedCore system, its challenges and benefits, including specific technical challenges made simpler by moving complicated fabrication off-site using SpeedCore, and focuses on the advancements made in the design and construction of the SpeedCore system since its first use in Rainier Square Tower in Seattle, WA. Evolution of various system components from Rainier Square Tower to the second application, 200 Park Avenue in San Jose, CA, is presented followed by the latest developments anticipated to be implemented in future SpeedCore designs. In addition to the potential benefits to cost, speed, and safety, the ways in which a SpeedCore lateral system can contribute to the overall modularization of building construction, including the potential benefits of use with other modular structural systems such as mass timber, are presented to demonstrate the potential benefits of SpeedCore in all building types and sizes.

Learning outcomes and session benefits

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the principles of SpeedCore technology and its application as a building lateral system
  • Discuss the role of componentization in modern construction and how SpeedCore addresses challenges in structural system componentization.
  • Evaluate the impact of SpeedCore on construction speed, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Identify some of the challenges in construction and explain how SpeedCore technology mitigates these issues.

Assessment of Learning Outcomes

Learning outcomes are assessed by responding to the post-session survey. If the course is taken On-Demand, there will also be a 10-question multiple choice post-test.
