Instructor: Aldo E. McKay, P.E., M.ASCE
Course Length: 1.5 Hours
Purpose and Background
Buildings may be deliberately attacked with explosive weapons or accidentally exposed to industrial deflagrations and detonations. These explosive loads, can cause significant damage to conventionally designed buildings resulting in a high number of casualties, injuries, and loss of important assets. In order to provide adequate protection to its occupants and important assets, buildings and structures must be properly analyzed, designed, and constructed to resist blast loads. This webinar familiarizes engineers and architects with the methods for analysis, design, and construction of blast-resistant buildings in ASCE 59-11. It discusses blast-resistant design of structural and façade components, as well as retrofit methods, available software, and analytical tools.
Primary Discussion Topics
- Analysis and design requirements for blast protection
- Recent developments
- Retrofit methods
- Software/analytical tools
- Design examples
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Gain a better understanding of methods for design and construction of blast-resistant buildings
- Obtain familiarity with controlled access and protected spaces
- Learn about the design procedures and requirements for the building envelope
- Learn about materials and detailing of blast-resistant elements
Webinar Benefits
- Understand how structural systems and components can be modeled under blast loads
- Learn the basics of blast-resistant design and detailing

How to Earn your CEUs/PDHs and Receive Your Certificate of Completion
To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete a short on-line post-test and receive a passing score of 70% or higher within 1 year of purchasing the course.
How do I convert CEUs to PDHs?
1.0 CEU = 10 PDHs [Example: 0.1 CEU = 1 PDH]
