This webinar was co-sponsored by ASCE's Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) and ASCE Continuing Education
Instructor: Jim Vogt, P.E.
Course Length: 1.5 Hours
Purpose and Background
There really is no such thing as a standard repair, especially when one considers the almost limitless number of profiles and configurations that wood trusses can be designed for in today’s marketplace. This webinar will provide participants with a better understanding of how to develop effective and efficient repairs for metal plate connected wood trusses.
Primary Discussion Topics
Participants will learn how to avoid costly errors and how to recognize when it’s necessary to hire a specialized structural engineer.
The speaker will discuss:
- Introduction to wood trusses
- Common causes of damage, evaluating the damage, and repairs
- Site conditions and their effect on damages and repairs
- Standard repairs; damaged plates; symmetrical and asymmetrical repairs; and complex problems
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Determine to discern how the damage occurred and thereby gain insight into repairs and other questions
- Recognize standard repairs, damaged plates, symmetrical and asymmetrical repairs and complex problems
- Know how to assess situations with damaged wood trusses and then take action appropriately
- Identify the right assessment questions to ask when faced with a truss-repair situation
- Examine how site conditions may affect truss/damage repair
Webinar Benefits
- Learn the right questions to ask when faced with a truss repair situation in order to assess the situation correctly
- Avoid costly errors by handling damaged trusses and plates situations correctly
- Learn about standard repairs on damaged wood trusses
- Learn solutions with symmetrical and asymmetrical repairs
- Examine how site conditions may affect truss/damage repair (i.e. It may be possible to calculate a repair, but site conditions may make implementation impossible)
Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Students' achievement of the learning outcomes will be assessed via a short post-assessment (true-false, multiple choice and fill in the blank questions).

How to Earn your CEUs/PDHs and Receive Your Certificate of Completion
To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete a short on-line post-test and receive a passing score of 70% or higher within 1 year of purchasing the course.
How do I convert CEUs to PDHs?
1.0 CEU = 10 PDHs [Example: 0.1 CEU = 1 PDH]
