Purpose and Background
As our cities expand and population densities increase, our infrastructure network has had to increase and adapt to serve our growing needs. As the urban core expands, more and more rural facilities are transformed to match an urban setting. Similarly, as population densities increase within the urban core, there is a need to incorporate multimodal facilities into ever more constrained right-of-ways. Each of these types of transformations have their overall general challenges as well as context sensitive needs. The primary goals of this webinar are to assist engineers and planners in identifying the issues and then selecting best practices to solve the challenges of redeveloping transportation networks to accommodate the expanding urban core. The webinar discusses recent guidelines from the FHWA, AASHTO, NACTO, ULI and other societies to help designers in redeveloping roadways for the urban core.
