ASCE has honored Fabio Biondini, Ph.D., C.Eng., F.SEI, F.ASCE, with the 2025 Dan M. Frangopol Medal for Life-Cycle Engineering of Civil Structures for distinguished achievements in the broad area of life-cycle engineering of civil structure and infrastructure systems and outstanding contributions to life-cycle of bridges and bridge networks.

The scientific contributions of Biondini cover several topics, including life-cycle risk, reliability, robustness, redundancy, resilience, and sustainability of deteriorating structural systems and infrastructure networks, with emphasis on the formulation of general methods and time-variant performance indicators for life-cycle design, assessment, and maintenance of RC/PC bridges exposed to corruption.

Methodologies developed by Biondini have been successfully applied on a wide spectrum of structural engineering systems and applications, including the assessment, monitoring, maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of existing structures such as cable-stayed bridges, arch bridges, girder bridges, and landmark buildings.

Biondini hold leadership positions in many international scientific and professional societies and is the associate editor or editorial board member on several peer-reviewed international journals.

The Dan M. Frangopol Medal for Life-Cycle Engineering of Civil Structures recognizes individuals for outstanding contributions to the field of life-cycle design, assessment, inspection, maintenance, and cost optimization of civil infrastructure systems.
