MEET THE CHAIR

Anurag Pande, Ph.D., A.M.ASCE

Dr. Anurag Pande is a professor in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at California Polytechnic State University. Dr. Pande’s research interests include traffic safety and crash data, driver behavior, observational data applications in traffic safety, emergency evacuation, service-learning, and scholarship of teaching. He has led applied research grants (as PI or co-PI) worth more than $2.5 million from local, state, and federal agencies. The majority of that funding has supported student research that resulted in more than 40 peer-reviewed publications. He has been honored with the 2020 Leadership in Education award by CTEDD (a tier 1 UTC led by UT-Arlington) for his contributions to the education mission of the UTC program. He also received the 2021-22 Distinguished Scholarship Award by Cal Poly and is the first civil engineering faculty member to receive the recognition.  He was one of the invited speakers on “Changes in Traffic Safety Policies and Regulations in 7 Countries (1950-2010)” at the 2012 International Workshop organized by IATSS (International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences) at the United Nations University in Tokyo. He is the faculty advisor to the student chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers — honored with the Best Student Chapter Award four times since 2014. He also oversees Cal Poly’s Service-Learning and Community Engagement program. Dr. Pande earned a bachelor’s in civil engineering in 2002 from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. Master’s and his doctorate in civil engineering from the University of Central Florida followed in 2003 and 2005 respectively.
