Description

Immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with Prof. Raimondo Betti at The Fu Foundation School of Engineering & Applied Science, Department of Civil Engineering & Engineering Mechanics and Principal Investigator. The successful candidate will conduct leading-edge research in the field of Structural Health Monitoring, with particular emphasis on the use of Machine Learning algorithms for rapid damage assessment. Research topics could focus on: the definition and use of novel damage sensitive features, physics informed machine learning, transfer learning from different source domains to a target domain, unsupervised strategies for decision making, etc.. The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Conduct advanced research on the selected topic(s)
  • Help with the preparation of research proposals
  • Help with the supervision of PhD students

Qualifications

Ph.D. in engineering, computer science, statistics or related field; experience with signal processing, spectral analysis, time-series analysis, machine learning algorithms and the modeling and analysis of complex systems; strong publication record; proficiency with either MATLAB or Python and practical skill with both; and strong oral and written English communication skills.

Application Instructions

This appointment is funded jointly by The Fu Foundation School of Engineering & Applied Science and by the Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. The initial appointment is for 12 months and is renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
